come to think of it...i haven't really got a particular song for little missy...i have several songs, but my favorite is the 'itty bitty baby girl' (by kelly willard) from the 'bless my little girl' cd...even now, she would still ask me to sing it to her even though she's all grown up and wouldn't fit my lap anymore!

her dada's favorite song for her is the 'butterfly kisses'...he would lovingly sing it to her and she would listen intently and fall asleep while listening to it...so, i'd like to share with you her version of it...never mind the lyrics...hehe! (i was haggling with her because she doesn't want to sing at first and so she sang several songs until she finally gave in to singing the song). enjoy!

little missy's 4th birthday

little missy celebrated her 4th birthday this january...she was very specific on what she wanted for her birthday...and that is to celebrate it at none other than jollibee (kids really love it and i like it because it's less hassle) and to have hetty and twirlie with jollibee of course for the mascots.

on her birthday, the exact day that is, hubby and i took a day off and spent the whole day with her. we go out and do whatever pleases her...

we asked her where she want to eat, syempre pa, sa jollibee pa rin!

she wanted to play, so we let her be...

we watched 'metanoia' and she fell asleep towards the end of the movie

she said she wanted to play some more...and so be it

and play she did!

i have always been a 'flip' cellphone fanatic...i don't know why, i just love it...maybe because it is kind a different in a way because usual form factors are 'candy bar'...but nowadays, it is quite hard to find a 'flip' phone...well, there are some, but the fact is...i just don't wanna spend my moolah on it when i could get a 'free' phone...sort of...

i have to say goodbye to my beloved 'red flip cellphone' which has been with me for two years...i'll miss you for sure, but i have to move on...i hope your new owner would come to love you as i did...

say hello to my new phone...i am now moving on to a 'touch' phone simply because it is what is available with my phone line. if only there's an available flip phone...maybe next time...

oh how i loved to watch that show when i was a kid! it was a complete learning experience. and what i like the most, i realized just when i become a mother, is that it teaches children good manners and right conduct that are truly 'filipino' such as "pagmamano" and saying "po" and "opo". and i was hoping that it would be revived or that even a re-run would somehow be shown on tv again so that my kid could watch it. well, God must have heard me (and i bet other parents' too!) because it will be shown again (with new season, i guess).

it will be aired on TV5 starting November 27, 2010.

little missy could identify shapes of all forms...sometimes she even creates her own term for it...one example is the crescent moon, since she don't know crescent shape, so her term for it is "moon banana"...clever huh?!...of course, she's a smart kid! =)

for this year's halloween party, little missy chose to wear a tinkerbell costume. mind you, she's the one who decided what she would wear...many times i tried to convince her to wear something else, but she wouldn't budge...hehe. luckily, my sister knew how to sew (i can't find a ready made that looks good and would fit her) and she made this gorgeous costume for my little missy. a friend commented that she's one cute and 'healthy' tinkerbell...healthy indeed, and thank God for that! =)

i have been eyeing chocolate molding as some form of a hobby and maybe a source of extra money (if not now, maybe someday). i have been reading on some recipes and tips and would also want to attend some sort of a training.

would you believe that the backyardigans characters in this photo are all edible chocolate figurines? cool huh?!...i found out that the chocolate lover is offering a variety of class on chocolate molding (and more!) and (i think) for a reasonable price. i would love to attend one of these!

i was whining to a friend that i do not have any hobby :(

i would start on something that would pique my interest, but then would eventually get tired of it. it got to a point where i would become very excited about something that i would drive even my hubby crazy because i want this or that...and then will not do it at all! so hubby got tired, and would just say yes to me, because he now knows, that eventually, i will get tired or bored and will abandon whatever it is that i "used" or "want" to super like doing...hehe

but my friend reminded me though, that i do not need to have a hobby...more than anything else, i have a child, who needs my attention...she's more than a handful and she wants my attention when i am at home. i guess my dear friend is right...

but i realized also, that i don't need to have a hobby just to have a hobby...i just need to do what it is that i like the most and what is it that i want to do at the moment...and one thing for sure that i wouldn't get tired of doing, is cooking for my family...and playing with my little missy =)

How brats are created

Who says only valuable jewelries can become heirlooms? My daughter showed me a copy of a letter written by her friend's Dad on her 13th birthday. A few months after he wrote it, he died of a heart attack. Today, this letter is regarded as a family heirloom, shared not just with the immediate members of the family, but shown proudly to relatives and friends alike.

I felt the message in this beautiful letter should be shared with as many people as possible. So I asked my daughter if her friend - the letter's addressee-would allow me to reprint it in BusinessWorld.

She said there shouldn't be a problem, except that a note should probably precede the letter asking the readers to share this with their young married children. Hah! a not-so-subtle inference that BusinessWorld readers are not exactly "young parents" anymore.

So, dear readers, do share this letter with your young married children. They will certainly find this letter - as I did - a very insightful treatise on how brats are created.

"Daughter Dearest Happy 13th Birthday!

"When you came to this world 13 years ago, you brought your Mom and I a lot of joy! We've always wanted a daughter and God in His wisdom gifted us with you. "This is not to cast any aspersions at your four older brothers; they are also a great blessing and we love them very much, but boys are boys, and I look forward to the day when I am old and gray to have you by my side. I can't see this happening with your brothers; you know what I mean, as we have talked about this at the dining-room table many a time.

"You have also heard me say that we are gifted with a lot of material wealth. That's something we should be very grateful to the Lord about, but we should be aware that this has been loaned to us, as you too are loaned to us by God and that we will be asked to give a full accounting when our day of reckoning comes.

"The reason for this letter is to warn you about one big, big danger you and your brothers may face in the next few years. I have seen it happen in other families. I don't want to see it happen here.

"I am referring to having you guys grow up as brats!" 'Brat-manship' is the process one has to go through to become a brat!

"Unfortunately, it is an ailment imposed by parents! They are the creators of the brats!

"In their desire to try to save their children from the difficulties they have been through, they do whatever possible to shield them from this. Little do they realize, that it is precisely these difficulties that have made them successful. Their love for their children may make them overprotective. They may even prevent them from taking public transportation. They come up with all sorts of rationalizations, going by public transportation is not safe, the buses are too crowded, the fumes on the road are bad for ones health, and so on!

"They mean well, but in the process, they deprive their children of what it really means to live in a city like Manila which is comprised of two strata of society - the 'haves' and the 'have-nots!' And sad to say some of 'the haves' live in their little world. Unaware of that sampaguita vendor, drenched in the rain, so that her siblings may get a least one meal that day.

"The other day, I was with an elderly wise gentleman, we are at the Polo Club waiting for his car. There was a girl, about your age. She, too, was waiting for her car. When her vehicle got there, she jumped into the front seat, and as she did, tossed her beautiful pair of riding boots into the back seat. She then asked the driver if her Mom was home. 'Wala po! Nagma-mah jong (She's not home. She's playing mah jong),' came the reply! The car drove off.

"My friend turned to me and said, 'There is an example of the under-privileged rich.' Then he followed with, 'They have everything and they have nothing.'

"This incident, short as it was, left me with a deep impression. I guess this is why I am writing this letter.

"Your Mom and I have tried to raise you kids to realize that our country is made up of the very rich and those who may not even have enough to have one decent meal a day. I hope you never lose sight of this. This is why we have taken it upon ourselves to adopt a squatter family during Christmas and share with them some of some things to make their Christmas more meaningful. In the process, we hope that you and your brothers will appreciate the conditions we live in. In the process, I hope that you always have compassion for these lesser fortunate. So that next time you see that sampaguita vendor knocking at our car window drenched in rain you do not get annoyed, but instead pull out your wallet and share with her in a small way your allowance.

"You will notice your brothers take public transportation to go to UP. It's not that we can't afford another car; we can't afford for them to grow up thinking that its part of their 'birth right' to be in the ruling class.

"This is why we insisted that you do your bed in the morning, and to pick up your own toys and clothes, rather than have a yaya trailing you.

"And I could go on and on. As you are apt to say, 'You catch my drift!'

"When you feel you are not getting enough money in your allowance, or get new shoes like your friends always had or the latest fad of Guess jeans, take this letter out and reread what I have written.

"We love you far too much to create a brat!

"Your Loving Father"

how i wish my mom and dad were still here. i'm sure they would have terribly enjoyed being with my little missy. but it's ok, i'm also sure that they are just as happy and that they are looking after her...they are her angels.

fortunately, little missy still have her "mommy" lola and her "daddy" lolo at her father's side. she is very close with her "mommy" and would always ask from her a 'pasalubong' whenever she gets home...hehe =)

if you're married, and your answer to my question is NO...then i suggest you do. i believe that dating is very important in a married couple's life. it helps strengthen the relationship. you get to spend time with each other, just the two of you alone, alone in your own world...just like the old times, when you're still in the gf/bf stage. remember those times, when you insist on walking when you could ride instead, just to extend the time of being together? remember the times when you dine facing each other, looking at each other tenderly? yes it sounds 'cheesy' but those moments should be relived every once in a while...yes we have work to do, bills to pay, and tons of other worries. but if we could just spend a little time, each month at least, to be just like 'teenagers' again, i believe, it would make a difference in our married life. dates need not be expensive, as long as you are with your husband/wife, as long as you are "twogether" making it a special "date".

little missy loves toys (who's kid doesn't?) and books....and gadgets! i bought for myself a nintendo DS lite as a, well, sort of a self gratification thing (i convinced myself hard enough that i had to buy it since i wasn't blessed with so much toys during my childhood, and i wanted so much that 'game & watch' thingy but couldn't have it back then). i thought i would be able to play around with my DS for a long time until i get bored with it then i'll pass it on to my little missy when maybe she's 4-5 yrs old. but now, it's all hers...she's claimed it already (she started playing it when she was still 2 yrs.old!) and i'm the one who borrows it from her...tsk.tsk.tsk.

ms.philippines as finalist in ms.universe 2010 in a major major way!

the inclusion of ms.philippines maria venus raj in the ms.universe 2010 beauty pageant was overshadowed by what had happened in the quirino grandstand tragedy. but nevertheless, we rejoiced somehow, knowing that a pinay was able to reach the finals of this prestigious beauty contest. and to think that prior to the contest, she was almost stripped off her crown as ms.philippines because of some issues on her birth certificate. her answer to the final question is not really that 'major major' of an answer...just 'so-so' that's why she didn't get to win the crown. but still, it's a 'major major' achievement. hehe :P

i was on my way to the office passing through my usual route when my 'blood type' suddenly occured in my mind. and i quickly reply to myself, "you're a B+". at that instant, i have my "aha" moment...you know, like something of a grand idea pop out of your mind. but it is not really that 'grand'. it's just that, i thought, wow, i'm a "B+". i might as well apply it in my life. i should aim "to be positve" always...no matter how hard...so there you go, i created a new blog. though i'm not really a good blogger (i couldn't even keep up with weekly blogging!). i figured, wrting it makes it more real, achievable, possible.

we love watching movies, whether it be in a cinema, or at home watching dvds or on a computer. however, going out on a movie date nowadays is quite expensive! so it is really a treat to go watch a movie in a cinema while munching popcorns. that's why we were not able to bring little missy along to a movie house when she was smaller because if she throw some tantrums, then we will not be able to finish the movie (and that is money wasted!).

these photos were taken of course, on her first movie day out while waiting for the screening of shrek forever after. she was complaining (well sort of inquiring) that it is dark and was asking all sorts of question. to give her some assurance, we told her that it's like watching tv, a veeeerrrryyyy big TV! she's looking all over the place, and at one point she said while pointing to the projector room, "ayun yung dvd mama o!" (there's the dvd player mama). hehe! observant little kiddo =)

mommy moments - i love books!

yes, i do love books! and since it is quite a while since i last joined mommy moments, i couldn't let this one pass...you see, ever since i learned to read, i've been reading here and there...i read even the signboards! i remember slowly trying to read and understand 'funny comics' when i was a kid (yaiks! you now know from which era i belong!) i guess it is what gets me hook into reading. relatives sometimes fondly recall that when i was a child, they told me i would hold a book/comics/magazines and pretend that i know how to read it, creating my own story based on the pictures that i see...and luckily, i must have brush it on to my little missy, as she too, now does the same =)

she loves books! (she gamely poses for this picture). almost every night, we read a story or two (and sometimes even more!) at times, we'd switch role and she'll be the one to read the story to me, pretending she knows how to read and just repeating what i told her...hehe. when i forgot about our bedtime routine, she'll remind me about it...she would say, 'hindi na tayo nag-read mama' and then makes a sad face. when we go malling, we'd make sure to pass by a book store, and let her browse through some books.

23-aug-2010 holiday...no more!

many are sooo looking forward to holidays...especially working moms like me because it would mean more time to spend with our family, more time to make kulitan with our kiddos. i was really looking forward to august 23, 2010 as a 'holiday' but i have already foreseen that since we have a new president, then the 'holiday economics' that was previously being observed will no longer be applicable. and true enough, our new president have declared august 23, 2010 as a regular working day. and that ninoy's death anniversary that is august 21 which falls on a saturday be observed on its original date. so, there you go...holiday no more...sigh...buti na lang i haven't made any arrangement for a vacation for this long weekend.

we still got some reason to smile though, there's still a long weekend coming this end of august. yey! =)

yep, am here...still alive and kicking! so much have happened in the past month...still trying to recover from the pain of losing someone dear to us. but we are still here, we are ok and on the road to recovery. hopefully things will fall into place. i know that God will never leave us, especially in our times of need, and as always i have proven it yet again. thank God for this life! =)

i briefly mentioned about her in my thanksgiving 2009 post as one of those that i am most thankful for. and now that she'd left us, i'd like to thank her again for taking good care of our little missy, for taking good care of all of us. she was already a part of our family, she took care of our llittle missy as if she was her own child, and for that we will forever be grateful. we are still sad for losing her, but knowing that she's now in heaven with God makes it bearable. rest in peace "nanay ely", we love you and we will miss you dearly.

and then as if to appease me, she drew another one. the blue stick figure with round head is her, and the other two squares she said are mama and dada...now i'm happy =)

the 3rd one she said is a slide...and yes, she's the pink figure with the biggest head - nag-slide daw sya...and then she drew some lines on the left side of the slide, sabi nya hagdan daw yun...and she drew 2 more figures, again, si mama at dada daw yun =)

nope, i'm not into politics...

i'm contemplating whether to join the fun run being organized by our company this coming may. you see, running is the "in" thing nowadays...it's like the new "badminton"...remember the days when badminton courts are sprouting all over and almost everyone you know play the game? well, i didn't...KJ ako e...haha! i guess i'm just wasn't into it...

but running, i think is quite different. everybody could do it, you just got to have the will to do it...and i'm still trying to convince myself that i NEED to do it...for one, i haven't got any form of exercise at all!

so, we'll see...hopefully i could convince myself enough to make me actually join...haha!

pandan island, occidental mindoro

summer is not yet over and i'm sharing with you one of the great places to go beach bumming...that is pandan island in sablayan occidental mindoro. i've been to occidental mindoro many times since i was a child, but haven't really know that there exist a beautiful island that attracts many tourists (more foreign tourists than pinoys!)

transportation:

route 1: plane from manila to san jose; bus from san jose to sablayan; boat from sablayan to pandan island

route 2: bus from manila to batangas pier; ferry from batangas to abra de ilog; bus/van from abra de ilog to sablayan

--> we opted to take route 2 since it is cheaper, and we could travel by night which is gonna save us at least 1 day. also, according to my relatives, the road from abra de ilog to sablayan is much better than the road from san jose to sablayan. travel time is around 10 hrs that is if you leave manila during night time (2 hrs bus ride from manila to batangas; 2-3 hrs ferry ride from batangas pier to abra de ilog; 3-4 hrs bus ride from abra de ilog to sablayan; 20 mins boat ride from sablayan to pandan island)

--> last trip of bus going to batangas pier is 10pm (at the buendia taft avenue station)

--> ferry from batangas to abra de ilog leaves at around 3-4am, you have to check it before traveling as this schedule is also changing

--> at abra de ilog, you have to be fast to catch the van going to sablayan. otherwise, you take the bus which takes longer to travel since there are too many passengers boarding on/off

accomodation:

the only resort available at the island is the pandan island resort which is being run by a french guy. you have to make a reservation just to be sure that they could accomodate you. the rates in their website are pretty accurate. you can always email them if you have questions and they reply pretty quick also.

the accomodation is simple (with toilet, bed with mosquito net). power is by solar energy only so there is not much light during the night. i suggest you leave your gadgets behind, but if you really need them, you can charge batteries at their dive shop for a small fee. water is salty, which is kind of expected since your on an island, but they will provide freshwater for shower purposes.

according to the french owner, they wanted to keep the island intact, they wanted to preserve it. hence, the simplicity of the resort, which is quite charming and which is just fine with us. but if you're the type of person who couldn't live without aircondition, without all the amenities of a high end resort, then you might want to re-consider going there.

food:

food is available at the resort. but if you're on a tight budget, you may bring in breads, canned goods for breakfast & some snacks too. at least 1 buffet per day is required by the resort. the dinner is buffet style only, so we opted to take the buffet dinner for the requirement. food is good.

other options:

if you're on a tight budget, you may opt to stay at a resort in sablayan instead of staying at the island. and then just go to the island for a day tour only for which you will be charge a fee of Php100.00 only compared to the rate that you will pay for staying at the resort. but if you're a beach bummer like us and you want to experience the quietness & simplicity of living in an island, then i suggest you stay at the resort =)

if you have the budget, there are tours available going to the apo reef which is said to be 'the second contiguous coral reef in the world and the largest one in the Philippines'. the resort can arrange the trip or you may also contact the eco tourism office of sablayan. this is quite expensive but if you are a group, then you can share the cost. if you are a diver, they said that it is a must to go there!

sablayan land tours are also available, but we didn't bother to take it since we wanted to just bum around the island and enjoy each other's company. *wink*wink*

itinerary:

there isn't really much to do aside from bumming around the island, snorkeling, or diving (did i mention they have a dive shop?), eating, enjoying the sun & the sand. if your lucky, you get to see small pawikans (sea turtles) at the back of the island, awaiting to be released back into the sea once they are ready.

well, i haven't...not yet...but still hoping...

i am a beach person...i love going to the beach...and i see to it that at least once every summer, i would be able to just bum around the seashore, feel the sand on my feet, and swim to my heart's content...

i still think that it wasn't too much to ask for...so i was really excited (i think little missy was more excited than i am) when a friend arranged a trip to the beach last weekend. unfortunately, little missy got sick and we were not able to go :(

of course i feel sad, it's my chance to go the beach...but then again, i wouldn't risk bringing little missy along when she's sick. and i wouldn't want to go either and leave little missy at home knowing that she's sick. besides, i know i wouldn't enjoy the trip because i would be thinking of her, if she's alright, or whatever she's feeling.

i realized that it's not just about me anymore...when i became a mother, my child's needs supersedes mine. it's not that i didn't knew it before, it's just that now i know it even better.

oh if in case you're wondering how little missy felt because we weren't able to go...well, she kind of understand, i guess she undertood it more than i do. we were careful not to remind her about the trip. but a bright kid that she is, she said "hindi pa ko pwede magsi-swim kasi sick pa ko?" i answered "yes, next time na lang ha" and that's it...no tantrums or whatever =)

tuesdays with gelli...

on tuesdays, i'm on an afternoon shift. i used to not like an afternoon shift simply because that would mean i would be able to go home late at night and would feel so sleepy and tired. but now, i actually look forward to TUESDAYS.

why? i called it my "tuesdays with gelli"

on tuesdays, i would be able to wake up a little later than usual...just a bit later actually...but i still cherished it...

then i would be able to cuddle up and play with my little missy...

and i would be able to eat breakfast with her...

and give her a bath...

sometimes she would go with me to the market...and we'd talked on the way and back home...

now i appreciate tuesdays more than ever...even though i get so tired and sleepy at the end of the day...i just think of our "tuesday moment" just me and my little missy...and i'm happy =)

hubby's hospitalization (part1)

this is a long overdue post, but nevertheless, i still wanted to write it down so that if ever i forgot the lessons that i've learned from the experience, this blog would remind me of it.

so here it goes...long post ahead...

january 2, 2010 - we were all excited to go and watch the 'disney on ice show' at the araneta coliseum in cubao. it would be little missy's first time to watch the show and we can't wait to see how she would feel about it. and as expected, she did enjoy the show.

however, towards the end of the show, hubby is already complaining of tummy ache. he's been having tummy aches lately but it would subside eventually so i just asked him if he's ok and he said he's fine and that he could bear the pain until we get home. we still have some errands to do, buy some things before we head home. we passed by gateway mall to take some pictures of little missy with the shop's big christmas tree and roam around. i still get to buy some pants but i saw hubby already sitting down in a corner probably to ease the pain. so i asked him again if he wanted to go home already. he said he's fine, he wanted to buy something first for his computer. i told him we'll buy medicine first for his tummy ache, just to lessen the pain. so buy we did and then we head off to sm for his computer thing. but it seems that even if he's already taken some meds, he is still in pain. i told him that i will bring him to the hospital, to the ER, and he agreed. for me it's a sign that he is really in great pain as he would normally say no, a big NO in fact, whenever i tell him that i'll bring him to the hospital. in fact, he doesn't like going for checkups at all. i would always bugger him to go to the doctor and have a checkup as he is complaining about his tummy ache for quite some time. he would just say yes, but would not go at all (pasaway!).

we went to st.luke's hospital as it is the nearest hospital from cubao that i could think of and that would accept our healthcard. when we get there, he could no longer stand up from the pain. i couldn't assist him because i am carrying little missy who already fell asleep. he managed to talk to the staff and they immediately gave him a bed to lie down. i was outside of the hospital at the waiting area because kids are not allowed inside the ER. i asked my siblings for assistance, my brother with my niece went to the hospital to look after little missy. some of my friends whom i managed to text also went to the hospital to check on us. it was only then that i was able to go inside the ER and assist hubby. he was given some pain relievers and it seems to work. we waited for the ultrasound and other laboratory results. the results showed that he's got fatty liver, gallstones, etc. when we heard about the gallstones, we asked the doctor about it but the doctor seems to be not worried about it. the final diagnose was that, it's acid related, because he responded to the medicine that they gave him. and so we went home, hubby feeling better.

or so we thought...

lesson learned:
1. never take your health for granted, if you feel something is not right with your body, have a checkup. early detection of sickness could save you from further pain...and most of all, it could save your life.

2. for a family person like me, if you are employed, look for a company that has some medical benefits and that it includes your family (spouse and children), you'll never know when you need it. it is really a great help.

3. don't hesitate to ask for help, from your family, from your friends. you're not a superhero, you can't do it all. and i thank my family and friends for being there for us.

i am so excited to go to the hot air balloon festival this year simply because little missy is going with us. i can't wait to see the expression on her face when she sees all the colorful hot air balloons up in the air. i'm sure she will be all smiles and excited! =)

this year we'll be staying at the clearwater resort in clark pampanga. i haven't been there, so it's a good thing that we'll be staying in a different place this time (last year we stayed at fontana also inside clark in pampanga). i've heard that clearwater is a great resort, i just hope we have enough time to enjoy its facilities.

can't wait to feel like a child again =)

outreach 2009

i promised to catch up on the things that i wanted to post/share. and here's one that is really worth posting =)

every year, on christmas season, we have our yearly outreach activity. it started out as an idea that since there are 4 of us in our barkada celebrating our birthdays on december, and since we usually go out and treat the whole barkada, why not celebrate it with the less fortunate?...all the celebrants agreed. and all of our friends are very supportive. from then on, it became a yearly activity that we looked forward to.

we opted to have our yearly outreach activity last december 6, 2009 at the la mesa ecopark in quezon city. we figured, it would be great to tour the kids inside the park. it would be something new for them and they would also learn something about taking care of the environment.

of course, there were games, foods and lots of goodies. thanks again to our loyal sponsors as well as to the new addition to our sponsors. the kids surely appreciated it as evident in their happy faces =)

a big thank you also to CHILDHOPE ASIA, for bringing the street children and for assisting us in this activity.

looking forward to more years of doing this great endeavor.

i just realized that next week is february already...huwaaat?! it seems like i lost track of time...i feel like i haven't really accomplished much of my personal 'to do' things and the month of january has just passed me by...

for one, i haven't really posted much. i really plan on posting something about hubby's hospitalization just to share a bit (and maybe help someone avoid it by the mere act of sharing the story...or maybe inspire others as well of the realizations and lessons that i learned by the experience). oh well, hope i'd be more productive when it comes to that this february....wish me luck! =)

last night i get to spend some time with my high school friends, my 'samakulit' friends. and it was a blast! first time akong hindi natulog magdamag sa sobrang interesting at juicy ng chickahan! but even without the 'juicy chickahan' our 'kada could just hang out and chat endlessly and just be ourselves leaving the worries of being judged or being treated indifferently because of our 'quirks'...and for that, for my dear friends, i am truly thankful...

hubby kept on asking me what i want for a birthday gift. and i couldn't answer him directly. well, partly because i'm quite contented with what i have. not that i don't dream anymore of having the latest gadgets, new bags/shoes and what nots, i still do! who wouldn't?! i just feel that i'm so blessed and i am so thankful for the wonderful things that i already have. i've learned to appreciate what things i have, big or small, over the years and i guess i've matured enough not to overspend on unnecessary things. maybe being a mom does the trick =)

but the reason why i can't and don't answer him directly is that, i wanted him to surprise me. and surprised i was! hubby got some beautiful flowers delivered at my office (to the envy of my lady officemates...haba ng hair ko that day!...ahaha!). another gift was the book (entitled 'the shack' which they say is a good read. can't wait to read it!) that a friend recommended which i was looking for at some bookstores already but is always sold out.

thank you very much mahal! i was surprised and truly had a happy birthday!!!

although they tease me of being cheesy...i just wanted to say, thank you again, and i love you! (it's my day, so i can be cheesy all i want! pagbigyan nyo na ako...hehe!)

when paying for your credit card bills, please please, always check your billing statement. scrutinize each item listed, your purchases, most especially the finance charges. i almost got ripped off!

you see, i usually pay for my credit card bills in full. so i don't worry about finance charges. but last month, i wasn't able to pay in full and so it is expected that it would incur some finance charges come this month's billing cycle. but upon checking my billing statement, i was shocked to see a finance charge that is double than what i expected. and so i did my research, asked an officemate on how to compute for the finance charge. and still, i would not arrived at the amount listed on my bill. kahit pa conservative computation na lang na "amount due*interest rate" eh mali pa rin at di tugma.

so i called the customer service of the bank and asked the CSR to check my account and to compute again for the finance charge. and indeed, there was an error! they say it's a system error and to appease me, they reversed my finance charge. yey! finance charge no more! dapat lang no! if i didn't check it, malamang naloko pa nila ako sa maling computation nila. tsk! tsk!

so guys, again, please check your billing statements before paying. huwag pong basta bayad lang ng bayad. it's our hard earned money. it is ok to pay as long as you are paying for the correct amount.

at the end of the day, i'm still thankful. if not for this incident, i would be paying a finance charge =)

trick or treat 2009

i know, i know...a month has already gone by and i'm posting this just now...guilty as charged!

but i do not want to pass this one up as we really had fun and it's my first time also to actually dress up for the halloween event. thanks to hubby's officemate for lending me the dress.

little missy had fun! and in case you're wondering, yeah, she's my little wonder woman. pardon for the huge headband that it looks like a crown, whatever...i did it in haste and i don't even know how it actually looks! haha!

getting ready for christmas 2009

it's december already and i haven't done any serious shopping yet for Christmas gift giving. and of course due to the economic crisis, we no longer have the sodexo pass/gcs that we usually get during Christmas....no more ham, no more gift basket...sigh...ang lungkot naman...no more freebies :(

i guess we just have to be creative this time and look for gifts that are not as expensive and yet useful enough. buti na lang the kiddos in our family grew up to be simple and appreciative, at least we won't have a hard time looking for gifts.

i also plan on making something to give to our relatives on a per family basis. just something to let them know that we remember them. some sweets maybe? we'll see...

only got 2 more weeks to prepare. hopefully i get to finish it up just in time for Christmas. wish me luck! =)

mommy moments - talented kids

i wasn't able to join last week's mommy moments as i couldn't find pictures of my little missy with the theme of 'chore time'. she knows how to keep her toys after playing, although after a while she would say, 'eh kasi napagod na ko, ikaw naman liligpit mama'...hehe, marunong na mag-rason! the important thing i think, is that she knows that she needs to pick up her toys keep them in the right place.

this week's theme is 'talented kids'. she could sing & dance just like most kids her age does. but what she loves the most is to read. she loves books. and she almost memorize all of its contents. she could easily identify the pictures and drawings and could even make a story just by looking at the illustrations. sometimes i get amazed at how she knew some of the things that i think she doesn't know yet!

we attended a baptism wherein they have this what you call 'photobooth'. unlike the traditional photo booth which people often go through to have a quick photo ID, in this one you don't actually have to go inside a booth. instead, they have this setup wherein you pose in front of the photo booth with matching background/backdrop and wait for the shots. and because we pinoys are very fond of 'picture-picture', it is a blast to have this photobooth on our special occasions. after the shots, you get a copy of your picture as a souvenir for the event. and you can have as many photos as you want! provided of course there's no one else in line except you, which i doubt because the guests really loved it and enjoyed it so much that they kept on coming back.

from December 25 to January 3, Disney On Ice returns to Araneta Coliseum for their Christmas show entitled "Disneyland Adventure"

now this is one show that i would love to watch. back in our college days, i used to watch Disney on Ice together with my friends. and since there's some fund constraint as we just get it from our allowance, we are content on watching it from the general admission. but we never mind, we still enjoyed watching it.

i'm really glad that Disney on Ice is back again here in the philippines.they haven't been here for quite some time and now that i have a child, i would like to watch it again this time with my little missy. she already knew almost all of the disney characters so i'll bet she'll have a blast watching it.

Oh, there's this prize of Paypal Funds that I would love to win. i'm joining the contest because i have lots of things to be grateful for. the prizes are just added perks to spice it up.

so here goes...

for the year 2009 God has given me lots of blessings...as HE always does year after year...sometimes i may not realize it at the exact moment. if i have asked for something and it is not given, i know that HE is just preparing something much better for me.

i am most grateful for our new home. at first we are having trouble because of the long travel time, we still do, but now we are more tolerant as we already got used to it. the important thing is that, it is OURS. it's quite cute, but in time i know that God will make it bigger just when we needed it.

i am also thankful for our car. i've asked for a sign, God gave it to me. and so we were able to purchase it. we're working hard to pay it up as soon as possible. i know we can, we just have to be a little more creative when it comes to spending.

i am thankful for our dearest 'nanay'(as our little missy fondly calls her) our household help, our angel at home. she opt to stay with us even if we already transferred to a new location. of course she had her misgivings, but we'd rather concentrate on her being able to take care of our dearest little missy. that is what is important. and for that we are really thankful.

i am thankful that when the typhoon 'ondoy' strikes and leave most of the areas in rizal devastated, we were spared. we were safely tucked in our home. although the river near our place overflowed and made us all really nervous, the water did not reach our house. and we are really really thankful that we are safe.

i am thankful for our jobs. that despite the economic crisis around the world, we still get to keep our jobs. God really knows when and where to place us.

i am thankful that we are healthy, despite of the occasional bouts of cough, colds, & flu, we are still in good health.

i am thankful for my family, most especially my hubby and my little missy.

i am thankful for life's little blessings....

this is my current mantra...the phrase that i keep repeating in my head. the phrase that i need to live by. the phrase that i need and must do by all means...

it's quite hard considering that sometimes there is this need for self gratification. the need to feel that you're rewarded because you know you've work hard. not that i deprive myself of life's little pleasures, that one i could keep on doing and i'm glad that i still could.

but other than that, no more. i need to keep my focus, i need to keep my eyes on the goal. and someday, i know that in so doing, i might be able to buy what i want when i want it.

this week's theme is sporty day. i would definitely encourage little missy if ever she'd become interested in a particular sport some day. i believe that it will help her develop good traits such as self discipline and being responsible to name a few.

two of the things that she enjoys right now that i think is sports related is riding her bike and swimming. she really loves the water so i think she'd be a good swimmer if it comes to that. she's also showing some interest in bowling (but she couldn't carry the ball, so right now she's just content on watching us play).

hands on manila servathon 2009

last October 10, 2009 our company joined the Servathon 2009 which is hosted by the Hands On Manila Foundation. it's a day wherein volunteers from different organizations/companies join together to provide services and assistance to the marginalized sectors of metro manila.

i am proud to be a part of this and was really glad that our company decided to join such an event which promotes volunteerism and self-sacrifice even for a short period of time. kudos to all the participants of this event! let us all continue to share our blessings! =)

caught this one on facebook. according to a volunteer named 'ella' there were some goods rotting in the DSWD warehouse. these are international donations from all over the world for the victims of typhoon 'ondoy' and 'pepeng' (and maybe typhoon 'ramil' which is expected to hit the country i think today if i'm not mistaken). the goods are not moving and are not reaching those people who needed them most....tsk tsk tsk

i've seen a lot of volunteers left & right at the height of typhoon 'ondoy' and 'pepeng' so i think that the excuse of DWSD that there are no volunteers is quite lame...totally not a valid excuse!!!

misconceptions

most people have this misconception that people working abroad (or living abroad) have tons of money...while it might be true for some, it is not always true for everyone else. sure they are earning $$$$dollars$$$$ which is way more than what we are earning here. but they are also spending dollars. plus the cost of living is also higher on other countries. so it just balances out.

i've seen some people who's content on living at the expense of their families living abroad not even minding to help themselves out. all they could do is ask and ask and ask. i feel for those who are enduring the lonelines of working abroad so as to earn a living. i hope that their familes here would realize how tough it is having to live on another place away from your family, that they would learn how to value all the things that they have and to live simply, that they would learn how to stand on their own or at least help themselves out and be useful.

the past week has been very challenging (still does) in terms of the travel going home...imagine having to fall in line waiting for a vehicle to bring you to your destination for 2 hours! (or more) it's quite frustrating really...not just frustrating, but draining as well...i could only resort to thinking that at least this is just the problem that we are facing and it's nothing compared to what other people are going through right now especially the victims of the typhoon 'ondoy' and 'pepeng'...so am still thankful...but still, it's frustrating! instead of getting home early and spending time with our precious little missy, we're stuck waiting for our turn to get on the shuttle...it makes us feel cranky, and mad, and depressed...did i already say it's frustrating?!...waaaahhh!!!

i guess we really really really need to learn na how to drive...so i think it's a good thing also from another perspective...

i like people watching. i enjoy watching people as they go by and i try to figure out what they are thinking at the moment or what are they going through with their life

i love to travel, i try to go out of town at least once a year (and hopefully would be able to continue it despite the tight budget!...hehe)
i have a heart for volunteer works
i want to retire at age 45! (or younger) and work for an NGO instead (because i think and i feel that it is much more fulfilling)
i'm currently trying to practice positivism...trying to see the good things in a bad situation...demn it's so hard! hehe =)

these past few days, little missy has been saying that she doesn't love me...i know she doesn't mean it, and i wanted to think that she don't really understand what she's saying...but still, i feel hurt...it hurts me everytime she said it...

i would say..."i love you anak"

she would say..."di kita love, si dada lang"

i would say..."basta ikaw love ko"

hubby would say..."love natin si mama"

she would say..."hindi ko love si mama, si dada lang"

and the conversation would go on and on like that...until she finally said...

"eh kasi, gusto ko hindi aalis si mama, dito lang si mama sa house"

and it really struck me...i'm hoping that someday she would read this blog...that this blog would last enough until the time that she could understand so that she might be able to read this...so that she would know how much i love her...so that she would know, that if only i could, i would spend each day with her....that i love her more than anything in the world...that i'm working hard to prepare for her future...

i love you anak...i always have...and i alway will...

i do hope that someday you would understand me...that someday you would understand why mama has to always leave you at home and go to work...and remember that, even though i'm not always with you physically, my thoughts are always with you...

ombrophobia caused by typhoon 'ondoy'

internet! finally!

we don't have a landline phone & internet for a week...but it's nothing compared to the horrible experience of the victims of typhoon ondoy...lost of properties and worst, lost of life...i feel for those people...i pray that they may recover from this tragic event...if there is one good result of this recent calamity, it's the outpouring of love, the willingness of people to help out and reach out to the victims...pero sana, huwag na magkaroon ng calamity para lang magtulungan tayo...

i think i'm developing 'ombrophobia' or the fear of rain...whenever it rains, i sort of panic...well, it's not really that obvious, tipo bang ninenerbyos lang naman ako...tsk! tsk! if i feel this way, pano pa kaya yung mga binaha at tinangay ng baha?!?!...sad...i really really hope that we all could recover from it...soon...

at work, the company has decided to block some of the websites that most of the employees frequently visits. and so, of course the number one on the list is facebook...funny though because a lot of people got stress out by this, or so i thought...it was a running joke for quite some time, or maybe it will continue to go on, people stressing about not being able to access facebook...that they would not be able to harvest their plants on farmville and everything would go to waste. i'm quite amused really. buti na lang i wasn't addicted to it as everyone else, that's why it has little impact to me.

but seriously though, if the company decides to block websites, you couldn't really do anything about it. after all, it is the company resources that you're using. so you can rant all day long everyday about it, but you just have to accept it.

bohol itinerary

hubby and i together with some friends went to bohol last oct. 24-27, 2008. it was fun and surely, if given a chance, we would definitely go back =)

we booked our tickets early to avail of the piso flight promo of Cebu Pacific and then we have a contact person who arranged the tours and the accomodation for us. for us, it's better to get a packaged tour so that everything is already fixed and we don't have to worry about every small detail of the trip. of course food is not included in the package, except for the Loboc River Cruise which includes a lunch buffet. the overall cost of the packaged tour we think, is just right since there are 8 of us to split the price.

total cost per head for the tour & accomodation is Php 4,300.00 which includes all the land tours, 1 buffet lunch, airconditioned room (for 2 persons) near the beach, and the sea tours. not bad eh? we think it's a good deal =)

food cost is quite expensive in panglao. you must allot at least 200 pesos per head per meal. or better yet, if you're staying at a place with a kitchen, buy foods to cook in tagbilaran first before going to panglao. ask your guide/driver about it.

we are supposed to go to hinagdanan cave but we spent too much time at the souvenir shop...hehe...so if you really like to go to the cave, just inform your guide that you want to go there first.

just finished watching the movie "my only u" starring vhong navarro & toni gonzaga...finally! it took me forever to actually finish the movie with little missy always bugging me as usual...i actually enjoyed the film...its light, funny & quite moving in it's own weird way...maybe because it's about losing somebody you truly love...and quite frankly, i couldn't imagine losing another one of my beloved...who would anyway?...i'd rather i'd go first if it comes to it...but then again, i wouldn't want my little missy to experience the same ordeal that i've got to go through growing up...and of course there's hubby....that's why i thank God for everyday that He gives me...for every hour, for every minute, for every second...

i don't know what's with wednesday...lagi na lang mahirap sumakay. i was so upset because i arrived early to work, and naturally would want to go home early...but then i ended up arriving at our house almost 9pm! akalain mo?!...i left the office before 5pm, medyo nag-ikot lang sandali sa mall, then pumila na sa sakayan at about 5:30pm...whew!

i was really stressed out...i guess, it also includes the stress from work...only because i allowed work to stress me out! habang nasa sasakyan at naiinis...sinubukan kong mag-muni-muni...i think of the good things that happen to me within the day despite of the hassles...but of course, it's so hard to think of positive things when you're not in the mood...ok, change strategy...take a deep breath...inhale, exhale...then take a nap instead...hehe...

now that i can think clearly...i'm still thankful...despite of it all...at least i arrived home safely to be with my little missy and hubby =)

choose to be happy

it is said that we should choose our battle...kinda hard to do especially if you're pissed. but i think it's still doable.

this past few days, i've been encountering little events that kinda annoyed me. if it was the old me, i think i would be burning with anger already and would have been pissed off the whole day. but then i'm trying my best to be positive. and that includes choosing my battle. besides, it's energy consuming to burden yourself with petty things that doesn't really matter. sabi nga, "sayang ang energy, sayang ang effort". so i'd rather choose to be happy.

if you're done getting angry, and you've made your point already, then smile na ulit. life goes on you know =)

today is mama mary's birthday...happy birthday mama mary!

and today is also my dearest sister's birthday....our 'ate'...well, actually she's more of a mother to us...she definitely stood up to her responsibility of being the eldest in the family. when daddy passed away, she took the role of being our father too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAREST SISTER!!! we may not be too vocal in thanking you, but in our hearts, we are always and ever thankful that we have you... thank you for everything...thank you for never ceasing to care for us...GOD BLESS!!! we wish you good health & happiness =)

working holiday

september 7 - yep, today was supposed to be a non-working holiday as declared by malacañang to observe the 'national day of mourning' for iglesia ni cristo executive minister eraño "ka-erdy" manalo...however, since the announcement was made late, friday evening after regular office hours, we were required to work today. i was already looking forward to a whole day of rest...but then again, we need to get up early and haul ourselves to the office.

the good part is that, walang pila sa sakayan, no traffic!, and hindi siksikan sa mrt =)

that means, early to work...and early to get home...not so bad at all...

these past few days, little missy has been so clingy. pagdating ko sa bahay, nakadikit na yan sa akin. i couldn't even eat properly because she wanted to sit on my lap. i couldn't even get to the loo because she also wanted to go in the toilet with me. aysus! but despite of all the hassles, i appreciate it and i love it. i understand that she just wants our uninterrupted attention. sabi nila, 'nagpapapansin' lang daw...but i think, it's more of 'naglalambing' lang...
